NZ Tours - Raglan 1/2 or 1 Day Trips

Come on a 1/2 or 1 Day Raglan trip and discover why everyone falls in love with this buzzy little town which is home to some of NZ's best scenery, the most famous surfing in all New Zealand, a great choice of arts and adventure activites and some really "out there" environmental initiatives.

Depart Hamilton for the famous west coast surf town of Raglan just 45 minutes to the west. Stop to visit the Bridal Veil Falls on the way - an impressive waterfall reached by a short walk through pristine bush. Continue on to Raglan where your driver guide will show you all the main sights, including the Ngaranui Surf Beach, Manu Bay (the famous left hand surf break), Cliff Street and the Wharf. There are numerous optional activities on offer and you will also be given free time to explore the quirky shops and vibrant cafes of this charming seaside town and/or to enjoy the beach, depending on the season. If you are visiting on the 2nd Sunday of the month, you'll also get to enjoy the Whaingaroa Creative Market.

Surfing lesson (Raglan Surfing School)

Raglan is New Zealand's most famous surfing destination and home to the Raglan Surfing School. No visit to Raglan is really quite complete without at least giving it a go. Take to the waves in the safe hands of the professionals. All equipment and wet suits provided.

Harbour Cruise

What a great way to explore the Raglan harbour - enjoy the scenery (including the pancake rocks), the commentary from your cruising captain and learn more about the history and natural environment of Raglan.

Kayaking (Raglan Eco Kayaking Adventures)

Raglan Eco Kayaking Adventures specializes in guided kayaking adventures around the Raglan harbour. Kayaking is one of the great eco-ways to get about and have fun. It's all about private bays, beaches and the unique limestone coast. Go to places accessible only by kayak and stop for great coffees and snacks along the way.

Bike Riding

E-Tours has chosen to work with Bike 2 Bay, another great eco-tourism venture offering guided or free-style bike rides aroundRaglan. Our most popular trip takes you out on a gentle ride to the Wainui Reserve to experience some more of the New Zealand bush and to picnic among the specimen trees. Then on to Ocean Beach perhaps to spot a kite surfer or two, before heading back in to explore a bit more of the town. These bikes are state of the art hybrids, adapted to the local riding conditions.

Horse Trekking

Magic Mountain horse treks offers a fantastic facility for beginners through to experienced riders. Magic Mountain is on top of a hill country sheep and horse trekking farm. Situated at 328 m (1000ft) above sea level (same height as the Auckland Sky Tower), the views are 360° - see 3 harbours (Raglan, Kawhia and Aotea) and 4 mountains (Karioi, Pirongia, Taranaki and Ruapehu). A magical spot!

Clay/Mosaic/Art Workshops

Raglan proudly has a very active Community Arts Council and Clay Shed. Students are invited to participate in clay/mosaic or other arts workshops - fantastic for building confidence, receiving English language instruction and producing works to take home. We are open to suggestion as to the type of workshop best suited to your group.

Marae Visit (* Note:  minimum numbers apply)

Experience the Maori culture of New Zealand first hand by visiting Poihakena Marae (village).
Unlike the Maraes at Tauranga, Rotorua etc., this one does not receive general tourists and is a real, live, working Marae.  Because we are locals, we have been able to develop a good relationship with the Marae whose members are happy to welcome our groups in cultural exchange. Witness the traditional welcome, the wero (challenge), the welcoming speeches and the hongi (traditional greeting). Learn of the rich Maori history, explanations of the Marae and carvings and you see that the oral traditions of storytelling are very much alive today. Be entertained by the local cultural group. Visit and meet the whanau (family) of Poihakena Marae. Optional hangi dinner and overnight stay available on request.

Xtreme Waste Recycling Centre (* Note:  minimum numbers apply)

Xtreme Waste is a flagship recycling centre which leads the way in recycling in New Zealand and has a great to deal to offer in the way of environmental education.  In fact, it has its very own education officers who are happy to receive groups who are willing to learn about ways to reduce, reuse and recycle.  The Raglan Community and Xtreme Waste work together to divert 75% of waste away from landfill.  Come and visit this amazing project and contribute your own ideas and take home others...
