NZ Tours - Coromandel 1 Day
The Coromandel Peninsular has magnificent scenery, golden sandy beaches, lush forest and a fascinating history. Coromandel is one of NZ's top destinations.
Today, our Coromandel visit starts as we pass through the historic gold mining town of Thames. From Thames, we take the coastal road to Coromandel Town - one of the most beautiful drives in NZ, lined with Pohutakawa trees and never far from the sea. Just outside Coromandel Town is the famous Driving Creek Railway where the 1 hour return trip takes you through replanted native kauri forest and includes 2 spirals, 3 short tunnels, 5 reversing points and several large viaducts. After leaving the railway, we driver further to see a stand of magnificent Kauri trees that are a short walk from the road. We also visit the Gold Stamper Battery to pan for gold. Back in town, there's the chance to visit the famous Coro. Smoking Company to sample some smoked mussels, fish, oysters or even smoked garlic!
