NZ Tours - Bay of Islands 2 Day Weekender
The early bird catches the early worm! So, today we start at 7am from Hamilton. We make our first stop at the Matakana Farmer's Market to sample some of NZ's finest foods and wines. We'll also visit Parry's Kauri park just outside Warkworth to see some majestic examples of NZ's largest tree. We will arrive at the Bay of Islands by early afternoon - in time to first visit the historic Waitangi Treaty Grounds where you will enjoy a guided tour and Maori Cultural Performance. Check-in to your motel in Paihia. Free time this evening to explore and find dinner on your own.
Day 2 starts with a cooked breakfast in a local restaurant. Then it's time to take a 3 hour Hole in the Rock Cruise with Kings Dolphin Cruises and Tours on board their "Dolphin Seeker" catamaran. We have chosen to work with Kings because of their company's commitment to become carbon neutral by 2010. On your way to the Cape Brett Lighthouse, your captain will look for dolphins. Bottlenose and common dolphins take great delight in racing alongside. Orca whales are also often spotted in these waters.
Further out we visit beautiful Motukokako Island and the famous Hole in the Rock. Hold your breath as we skillfully navigate our way through the hole and into spectacular Grand Cathedral Cave.
As we cruise back to Paihia we pass several remote islands, fringed with golden sand beaches and decorated with red-flowering pohutukawa trees.
This afternoon we head home stopping at the Whangarei Falls, often called the 'most photogenic waterfall in New Zealand'.
